Saquib Lakhani, MD

Fellowship 2011 Summer

Saquib Lakhani M.D. is a graduate of the Integrative Medicine Fellowship Class of Summer 2011. He completed his undergraduate studies and medical school at the University of Virginia and pediatric residency at Washington University / St Louis Children's Hospital. He then went to Yale University for a fellowship in pediatric critical care and a research fellowship in immunobiology.

Following three years on the Pediatrics faculty at Yale, he left to become Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Maryland.  He then joined the faculty at Sanford Children's Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, before returning to Yale University as Associate Professor in Pediatric Critical Care.

Dr. Lakhani has had an interest in nutrition that was sparked by his residency program director, who emphasized the importance of good nutrition despite the fact that providing adequate nourishment to ill, hospitalized children is frequently an afterthought. This interest simmered in the background, particularly making him wonder how to better help the numerous children that he cared for with chronic illnesses such as asthma. He also began to look for nutritional guidance for himself and his own family that made more sense than that espoused by traditional experts. After attending the Nutrition & Health conference in 2009, he signed up for the AZCIM fellowship.

His primary clinical role remains as a pediatric intensivist.  He is currently helping to develop a program at Yale using genomics to identify the causes of unexplained diseases and illnesses in children.

In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family in outdoor pursuits - hiking, walking, camping, archery, fishing and playing a variety of sports, as well as reading and quiet time.
