Bettina Herbert, MD, FAAPMR, ABOIM, IFMCP

Fellowship 2008

Bettina Herbert is a board-certified physiatrist who served as Director of Integrative Pain Management at the Jefferson-Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine (Philadelphia) for over 6 years. She left a career in financial services to pursue medical studies - in her 40s. While attending Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine she also studied at the College of Osteopathic Medicine. She enjoys faculty appointments at both Jefferson University Hospital and the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine, and has also taught the University of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Medical students, residents and patients often have their first exposure to osteopathic medicine in her office. Patients are treated using a combination of gentle osteopathic techniques and integrative approaches. Bettina is passionate about the healing power of the therapeutic relationship and educating patients about the body's intrinsic healing capacity, thereby helping them reclaim their own health.

Bettina is a grateful recipient of a Bravewell Fellowship and a 2008 graduate of this Program. She tries to give back to the integrative medicine community by teaching, writing and speaking. She has contributed to two chapters in Andrew Weil's Integrative Medicine series. Special interests include osteopathy in the cranial field, biodynamic osteopathy, botanical medicine, functional medicine, and nutrition.

Pastimes include yoga, classical music, hiking, skiing, rowing, sailing, avoiding tripping in tango class, and making a fine mess in the kitchen.
